Based on the 2018 IECC
Members of the Board of Building Regulations & Standards (BBRS) votes November 7, 2020 as the end of the concurrency period for the Ninth Edition Amendment to the Energy Code based on the 2018 International Energy Conservation Code (IECC).
The concurrency period has allowed building permit applicants to choose to have their design conform to the 2015 IECC with Massachusetts Amendments beginning on February 7, 2020, the effective date of the 2018 IECC. The Board’s action includes voting an emergency code change, on July 14, 2020, to extend the concurrency period beyond August 7, 2020. The end of the concurrency period means that building permit applications submitted to the building official after November 7, 2020, for work regulated by the energy code provisions in 780 CMR, will need to conform to the 2018 IECC and the Massachusetts Amendments.
