We mentioned in one of our last news post, 9th Edition State Building Code Changes Continuing Education about how there were some changes coming to how you were going to be able to fulfill your continuing education for your CSL licenses. The biggest change is that you although you will still be able to take your CSL continuing education online, it will only be for half of the hours. The other half will need to be completed through in-person, classroom training. Meaning, if you need to take the 12hr continuing education for your Unrestricted license – you can take a 6hr course online, but would also need to take a 6hr in-person class as well. This is a shift from what you currently are able to do, which is take all 12hrs online.
The State realizes this is a big shift in how things are done and has come up with a ease-into-it kind of solution. For anyone who’s license is set to expire ANY time next year (2018) the state will allow you to purchase and take the 8th edition course all online to fulfill your continuing education requirements. Here are the specific steps as to how it will work:
- You MUST purchase the course THIS YEAR by December 31st or before – only the 10 or 12 hour course as needed.
- You can take the course any time before your license is set to expire or for those with license expiration dates BEFORE June 30
- For those whose license expires after June 30 – you MUST take the course before June 30 – regardless of when you license expires after that date.
- Example: Your license is set to expire on September 25th, normally you wouldn’t worry about doing your continuing education until August. But, in order to fulfill your continuing education requirement, grandfathered into the all online standard, you MUST complete the course no later than June 30th. Your completion certificate will apply towards your license renewal when it comes due.
So – to recap… things are changing – but you have a reprieve for next year IF you purchase by December 31st and complete by June 30th
